KPM Board – Core “Essentials”
The Kolbe Prison Ministry Board has developed and put into words the critical elements of the ministry, the cores and the retreats that are mandatory and non-negotiable for activities carried out under the “Kolbe Prison Ministry” name and system. The foundation of these mandatory elements is the Catholic faith and practice. All elements are consistent with and ultimately based on the truth of the Catholic faith. Accordingly, it is necessary for persons in leadership roles and positions to be practicing Catholics in communion with the teachings of the Church. In the prison systems and hierarchy, the Catholic faith is often misrepresented, denigrated and sometimes even vilified by persons who are ignorant of the truth and teachings of the Church or otherwise have a adversarial agenda. It is therefore crucial that KPM leaders and volunteers reflect and live out the faith.
The “Essentials” also describe the minimum requirements for putting on a KPM retreat, staring with selection of the Retreat Director. Since the Director has authority to build or tweak many of the components of the retreat (team, ministry leads, schedule, prayers, theme, etc.), selecting an appropriate and faith-filled Retreat Director is perhaps one of the most critical decisions a core has to make.
The “Essentials” also include a KPM Core Handbook that will help guide the cores in it’s operation and reinforce the important principles of the ministry.
The “Essentials” document, the Handbook, and related materials can be viewed and downloaded from the Kolbe Cabinet Google Drive which can be accessed by clicking on the button below.
